Online screen recorder
Record your entire screen, a window or a tab with system audio, mic and a webcam bubble,
then preview, trim and download MP4. Free, no install. Your recording stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
Recording settings
Shortcuts (while this page is in front)
- Alt+Shift+RStart
- Alt+Shift+PPause / resume
- Alt+Shift+SStop
On a Mac, Alt is the Option key. When recording another window, use the browser’s Stop sharing button to finish.
Recorder
Your recording never leaves your device. Recording and downloading happen right in your browser.
How it works
- Pick a mode and sound
- Press Start, choose what to share
- Stop, trim and download
How to record your screen in the browser
This page records with the screen sharing built into your browser, so there is nothing to install and no account. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer can all record the screen; which sounds you get and which file format you end up with depend on the browser, as the next two sections explain.
- Pick a mode: screen, camera only or microphone only. For the screen you can add System audio, Microphone and Webcam bubble.
- Press Start recording. Your browser asks what to share: pick the entire screen, a window or a tab, tick Share audio if you want sound, then press Share.
- With the countdown on, recording starts after 3 seconds, which gives you time to switch to the window you want to record.
- Press Stop when you are done, or use the browser’s Stop sharing button. Then preview it, trim the start and end, and download the file.
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Alt+Shift+R | Start recording |
| Alt+Shift+P | Pause, or resume from pause |
| Alt+Shift+S | Stop recording (cancels during the countdown) |
Shortcuts only work while this page is the active window: browsers do not let a web page register system-wide shortcuts. When you are recording another window, use the browser’s Stop sharing button or come back here and press Stop. The keys avoid the Ctrl and Command combinations browsers use themselves, and single letters.
Webcam bubble
With Webcam bubble on, your camera is cropped into a circle and placed in a corner of the recording, which works well for tutorials and walkthroughs. The bubble is drawn into the video itself, so it is in the file you download. Pick any of the four corners, even while recording. With the bubble, the video is at most 1920 × 1080 (1080 × 1920 for a portrait screen) and larger screens are scaled down; without it, the screen is recorded at its own size (up to 4K).
Which sounds can be recorded
Sound playing on your computer (system audio) has to come from the browser, and each one handles it differently. As of October 2026:
| Browser | Sound you can record |
|---|---|
| Windows | Chrome, Edge: system audio when sharing the entire screen, the tab’s audio when sharing a tab; newer versions also offer audio for a window |
| Mac | Chrome, Edge 143 and later on macOS 14.2 or later: audio for the entire screen or a window too; older systems only get a tab’s audio when sharing a tab |
| Firefox | No computer sound; use the microphone |
| Safari | No computer sound; use the microphone |
Every browser can record the microphone. With both system audio and the microphone on, the tool mixes them into one audio track. If a recording has no sound, see the question "Why is there no sound in my recording" below.
MP4 or WebM
Chrome and Edge 126 or later and Safari record straight to MP4 (H.264), which plays in the players and editors built into Windows and macOS and uploads anywhere. Firefox cannot record MP4 and saves WebM instead; WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox and VLC. If you need MP4, record with Chrome or Edge. Before you start, the line under the start button says which format this browser will use.
- Microphone only: Chrome, Edge and Safari save an M4A audio file; Firefox saves WebM or Ogg audio.
- Audio only: you can download just the sound of a video. AAC audio is saved as M4A and Opus audio as Ogg, without re-encoding. MP3 is not offered.
- Recordings have no watermark and no time limit; length is limited only by your computer’s memory (see the FAQ).
Trimming (start and end only)
Trimming only cuts the start and the end. The video is not re-encoded, so it is fast and the quality stays exactly the same. The trade-off is that the start has to land on a keyframe: when the point you pick is not on one, it moves back to the previous keyframe (usually less than a second for files from Chrome and Edge; if the next keyframe is less than 0.25 seconds away, it starts there instead), and the page tells you where it actually starts. At least 0.5 seconds must remain, and you can restore the full recording at any time.
Record with the tools built into your computer
Windows and macOS can also record the screen without a browser. These steps follow Microsoft’s and Apple’s official help pages, checked on 10 October 2026.
Windows: Xbox Game Bar (Windows logo key + Alt + R)
- Open the game or app you want to record.
- Press Windows logo key + Alt + R to start. The screen flashes to show recording has started. You can also press Windows logo key + G to open Game Bar and choose Start recording in the Capture widget.
- Press Windows logo key + Alt + R again to stop. Windows logo key + Alt + M turns the microphone on or off while recording.
- The video is saved as an MP4 file in the Captures folder inside Videos, and you can also find it in the Game Bar Gallery.
If nothing happens, open Settings, search for xbox and make sure Enable Xbox Game Bar is on. Microsoft also notes that Game Bar supports one monitor at a time and that some games block recording.

Record with the tools built into your phone
Phone browsers (Safari and Chrome on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android) cannot record the screen, so use the screen recorder built into your phone. When you open this page on a phone, the tool shows these steps right away. They follow Apple’s and Google’s official help pages, checked on 10 October 2026.
iPhone and iPad: Screen Recording in Control Center
- Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center (on models with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom).
- Tap the gray Screen Recording button (a dot in a circle) and wait for the 3-second countdown. If it is not there, add it to Control Center first.
- To record your voice too, touch and hold the Screen Recording button, tap Microphone to turn it on, then start.
- To stop, tap the red recording indicator at the top of the screen (or the red dot in the Dynamic Island), then tap Stop. The video is saved to the Photos app.
To add the button on iOS 18 or later, open Control Center, tap the Add button, tap Add a Control and choose Screen Recording. On iOS 17 or earlier, go to Settings > Control Center. Some apps do not allow recording, and you cannot record while mirroring your screen.

Android: Screen record in Quick Settings
- Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings.
- Tap Screen record. You may need to swipe right to find it; if it is missing, tap Edit and drag it into Quick Settings.
- Choose what to record and whether to record audio, then tap Start. Recording begins after the countdown.
- To stop, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the screen recorder notification. Find the video in Google Photos under Collections > On this device > Movies.
Google notes that on Pixel phones some steps work only on Android 11 and up. Other brands may use a different name or place for the tile; check your phone maker’s help pages.

Permissions and troubleshooting
To record the screen you pick what to share in your browser’s sharing dialog; adding the microphone or camera makes the browser ask again. Until you press Start, this page does not touch your screen, microphone or camera. The permission is for this site (www.pocketool.app) only, and you can take it back at any time.
You pressed Block or cancelled sharing
- Cancelled the sharing dialog: press Start again, pick what to share and press Share.
- Chrome, Edge: click the icon at the left of the address bar, set Microphone and Camera to Allow, then reload this page.
- Firefox: click the permissions icon at the left of the address bar, clear the blocked permission, then reload.
- Safari: choose Safari > Settings > Websites, find Microphone or Camera, and set www.pocketool.app to Allow.
Mac says the browser cannot record the screen
macOS needs its own permission for screen recording: open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on older versions), turn on your browser, then quit and reopen the browser. Microphone and Camera are on the same page.
No microphone or camera found, or it is in use
- Check that the microphone or camera is connected, and that a laptop camera is not covered by a privacy switch or shutter.
- Close apps that are using it, such as video calls, and try again.
- Windows: in Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and Microphone, make sure access for apps and for your browser is on.
Is my recording uploaded
No. Recording, preview, trimming and audio export all happen in your browser. What you record is never sent to a server and never saved to browser storage.
- The recording lives only in this tab’s memory and disappears when you close or reload the page, so download it first.
- This tool does not remember any settings in your browser, and the URL never carries anything about your recording.
- Usage statistics only record the mode, the downloaded format, whether you trimmed, whether the webcam bubble was on, whether it was audio only, and, when recording fails, which source failed (screen, microphone or camera) and an error code. They never record length, file size, device names or any picture or sound.
Trimming and audio export use the open source Mediabunny library (MPL-2.0 license), downloaded to your browser the first time you trim, export audio or tidy up a WebM file. For details on usage statistics and server logs, see the privacy notice.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no sound in my recording?
- Share system audio or Share tab audio was not ticked in the sharing dialog: record again and tick it when you pick what to share.
- Firefox and Safari cannot record computer sound. On a Mac you need macOS 14.2 or later with Chrome or Edge 143 or later to get sound from the entire screen or a window; older systems only get a tab’s audio. See Which sounds can be recorded above.
- To record your voice, tick Microphone.
- On a Mac, allow your browser in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
Can I record my phone screen with this page?
No. Browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android cannot record the screen; use the phone’s built-in screen recorder, with the steps in Record with the tools built into your phone above. On a phone you can still use Camera only or Microphone only on this page.
How long can I record?
There is no time limit and no watermark. Until you download it, the recording is kept in your computer’s memory: a 1080p screen takes up to about 40 MB a minute (less when the screen stays still), and the page shows the current file size while recording. For an hour or more, record in parts and download each one.
Why does the trimmed video start a little earlier than I chose?
To avoid re-encoding the video (fast, no quality loss), a trim can only start on a keyframe. When the start you pick is not on one, it moves back to the nearest keyframe, and the page shows the second it actually starts at. The end is exactly where you put it. Microphone-only recordings do not have this limit.
Why did my browser record WebM?
Firefox can only record WebM, and Chrome and Edge record MP4 directly from version 126. WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox and VLC and uploads to YouTube; if you need MP4, update your browser or record with Chrome or Edge. This tool does not convert files.
Do I need an extension or an account?
No. This page only uses the screen sharing and recording built into your browser. It is free, needs no sign-up, and the file goes straight to your computer without being uploaded.
Can I drag the webcam bubble anywhere?
You can pick any of the four corners, also while recording (the video follows), but not drag it to any spot. The bubble only works together with screen recording; to record just yourself, choose Camera only.
