Watermark ID copies with a "for this purpose only" note, without uploading your photos
Tap the image to open the tool ↗When you hand a copy of your ID to a landlord, an employer or a bank, writing a line across it stating who it is for and what it is for is how you pin that copy to one purpose. This page covers what the tool does, how to word the note, and where on the card the watermark should sit.
What this tool does
Take a photo of the document or pick one from your library, add the watermark, then download it. The whole process happens inside your browser and the photo is never uploaded. What you get:
- Crop and straighten: drag the four corners around the card to correct the perspective and turn an angled photo into a flat one, or choose to use the whole image as it is.
- Text watermark: built-in templates cover renting, job applications, opening a bank account, mobile plans and insurance. Fill in who it is for and what it is for and the line is assembled for you, with the date in either the ROC or the Western calendar. There is also a custom option where you write the whole sentence yourself.
- Style controls: tiled across the card or placed once, plus opacity, angle, text size, tile spacing, colour and outline. Fonts come from a built-in list, and you cannot upload your own font file.
- Image watermark: a signature or a logo can be added as an image watermark in PNG, JPG or WebP, with the white background removed by default, again either tiled or placed once. The text and image watermarks can each be switched on or off independently.
- Masking and rotation: cover the fields this errand does not need with solid blocks, and rotate the photo in quarter turns.
- Front, back and output: once the front is done you can add the back, and both sides share the same watermark settings. Each side downloads as its own JPG, sharing sends both at once, and on desktop there is also copy image.
Annotating a copy lowers the chance of it being reused somewhere else. It is not a guarantee, and it does not stop someone determined from editing it or photographing it again.
Are the photos uploaded
No. Reading the photo, correcting the perspective, drawing the watermark and producing the final image all happen in the browser. There is no server on our side that receives photos. The image only exists in that tab's memory and is gone when you close or reload it.
- The file you download or share is redrawn from scratch, so it carries none of the original EXIF data such as the time the photo was taken, the phone model or the GPS location.
- The browser remembers your watermark style, things like font, colour and opacity. The text you type and the photo itself are not stored.
- Watermark fonts are fetched from Google Fonts, and those requests do not contain the text of your watermark.
- A signature or logo image you add is used locally in the same way.
If you want to check that for yourself, pick your photo while online, wait for the editor to open and select the font you want, then switch to airplane mode. You can still type the text, adjust the watermark and download the result. Only a font you have not used before needs the network.
How to word the note
The sentence is built from who it is for, what it is for, the date you hand it over, and optionally a line saying it is not valid for anything else. Name the organisation or person receiving it, state the specific errand, and use the date of submission. The narrower the stated scope, the less room there is for the copy to be reused.
Since the recipients are organisations in Taiwan, the templates produce the note in Traditional Chinese:

Replace the placeholder organisation in the examples with the real one. If placeholder characters are still sitting in your text, the tool reminds you to fix them before you export.
Worth checking first: some organisations ask to see the original document, and some will not accept an annotated copy at all. Whether you should mask fields such as the number on the back also varies between them. A quick question to the person handling your case saves a second trip.
Where to put it and how strong to make it
- Put it over the printed details, not just in a corner. A watermark parked in an empty corner disappears the moment someone crops that piece off.
- Do not bury the photo, the name or the ID number. The recipient has to check those, and an unreadable copy can be rejected.
- Opacity between 25% and 40%. Below 20% it tends to vanish after the copy is photographed, photocopied or compressed by a messaging app. Above 50% it starts hiding the document. Raise it, or turn on the outline, when the background is dark.
- Text size: for card sized documents such as an ID card, health insurance card or driving licence, 8 to 12 pt works well and the tool defaults to 10 pt. Set it too large and the sentence no longer fits on the card, leaving only a fragment visible.
- Tiled or placed once: tiling repeats the line diagonally across the whole image, so it survives any crop. That is the default and the safer choice. A single placement looks cleaner and keeps the details easy to read, but it is easier to cut away.
How to use it
- Choose the document type, card sized or other, then use take photo or choose photo. On desktop you can drag an image in.
- Drag the four corners to crop and straighten, and mask any fields this errand does not need.
- Pick a template, fill in who and what it is for, then adjust the layout, opacity, colour and text size.
- Download or share. For the reverse side, switch to the back and add a second photo.
Questions people ask
Where did the download go on my iPhone? Files downloaded in Safari land in the Downloads folder of the Files app, not in Photos. To get it into your camera roll, use share instead and choose Save Image.
I opened it inside LINE and the download button does nothing. In-app browsers in LINE, Facebook and Instagram often cannot download or share files. Open the page in your normal browser, Safari or Chrome. When you open it inside LINE, a link to open it in the default browser appears at the top of the tool.
It cannot read my HEIC photo. Picking a photo directly on an iPhone usually converts it to JPG automatically, so problems are rare there. If it happens after transferring photos to a computer, open the tool in Safari, convert the photo to JPG first, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible on the iPhone.
Can I do the front and the back in one go? Yes. Finish the front, then switch to the back and choose add back side. Both sides share one set of watermark settings, so you only adjust them once, and each side downloads as its own JPG.
Can I add a signature or a logo? Yes, as an image watermark, in PNG, JPG or WebP, with the white background removed by default. It is independent of the text watermark, so you can output the signature on its own if that is all you need.
